Terms
Short, because the arrangement is simple. Using After Dark Notes means you agree to what follows.
By Invitation
The journal is open only to people who have been invited, and only to adults. An invitation is for the person it was sent to. Keep your sign-in links to yourself; whoever opens one is treated as you and, in Standard keeping, can open your journal.
Your Words Are Yours
Everything you write stays yours. The service stores it so it can show it back to you, and does nothing else with it. What the service can and cannot see is on the Privacy page; please read it first.
Fair Use
Use the journal for yourself. Do not try to reach anyone else's account, probe or overload the service, or use it to store anything unlawful. Access can be withdrawn from an account that does.
No Promises It Cannot Keep
The service is offered as it is, without warranty of any kind. It is looked after with care, but it may be slow, unavailable, or wrong at times, and it may one day change or close. Export your journal from Settings as often as you like; that copy is the one you control. If you turn on Ultra Secure keeping, your recovery key is yours to keep: if you lose it and every device, the service cannot open your journal for you, and nobody else can either. To the extent the law allows, the service is not liable for loss that follows from using it or from being unable to.
Leaving
You can delete your account from Settings at any time, and that is the end of the arrangement. If the service is ever going to close, the aim is to say so inside the journal first, with time to export.
Changes
If these terms change, the new text appears here with a new date. Continuing to use the journal after that means you accept it.
